Where is Gingerbread?

So another week has come and gone without Android Gingerbread… The upgrade of the developers console kept us hoping that Gingerbread’s arrival was imminent, and it might still be, but nonetheless, it isn’t here yet.

FroYo launched exactly six months ago today and brought with it a lot of excitement. As a user, I can’t wait for Android tablets to really come in force onto the market and we are now being told that Gingerbread will be Android 2.3 and we’ll have to wait for Honeycomb, aka v 3.0, for full tablets compatibility. I know the pressure is on them to get it right and I’m sure they are delaying the launch to get the best offering they can –  I’m just too damn impatient! ;-)

Update to Google Android Market Developer Console coming up?

Filed under: google android — Tags: — November 17, 2010

In an email sent to registered Google Android devs, Google has announced they will perform maintenance on “Android Market Developer Console starting at 10PM on THURSDAY 18 November and ending by 4AM FRIDAY 19 November 2010, Pacific Standard Time.”

This is unusual for Google to send such an email and in fact, this is so unusual that they had to send 2 emails – they had got the times wrong in the first email!

So does it mean they are cooking up an update of the developer console to coincide with the launch of Gingerbread? Does it mean Gingerbread SDK will be launching then?

Reflections on literate programming

For those unfamiliar with Literate Programming (LP), this is a style of writing programs, invented by Donald Knuth, with the purpose of writing better documentation. The way to do this, according to Donald Knuth, is to consider programs to be works of literature.

Sudoku Way – Tetris-meet-Sudoku game for Google Android

Sudoku Way is a puzzle game for Google Android phones. In a nutshell, it’s inspired by Tetris and Sudoku. Instead of shapes falling down the grid as is usual with Tetris, it’s digits (from 1 to 9). The goal is to place them following the rules of Sudoku. Simple? It’s pretty addictive!

At launch, you are presented with a menu.

The rules are explained but basically, it’s all about Sudoku!

If you choose to play the game, it will look like this (the game has been tested on all screen sizes).

You may pause during gameplay, and you will be presented with the following pop-up menu.

Other features include settings (choose the speed, choose the playing mode), highest scores and saving games.

The game comes in 2 flavours. Sudoku Way and Sudoku Way Lite.

The full version costs £1.29 (approx. $2) and the Lite version is free. The difference between the two? Well, the full version allows you to save your games in progress and also features extra settings options. Also, the free version features ads.

So if you like Tetris or Sudoku, why not try out the Lite version then upgrade to get all the extra features? Just go to Android Market and search for “Sudoku Way” ;-)

You can now join Sudoku way on Facebook!

Sudoku Way – a Tetris meets Sudoku game for Android

A few screenshots for my new Google Android game Sudoku Way. This is inspired by Tetris but instead of shapes, it’s numbers falling down the grid on the screen. Your mission is to place them in a sudoku pattern (= 9 unique digits in either a row, or a column, or a 3 cells by 3 cells grid).

Google Android at top spot on PCWorld Best Tech Products 2010 list

As usual, PCWorld releases its list of the best tech products for the year (view the list here) and my fellow Google Android developers will be pleased to know that Google Android 2.2 has beat the iPad to the top spot. I’m not one to care much about such  lists but it’s always nice when a mainstream tech/computer company recognises that there is more to gadgets than Apple.
