I’ve just updated Sudoku Way (a Tetris meet Sudoku game for Google Android). This is a fairly minor update focusing on improved graphics when the numbers are removed from the grid. I’ve also fixed a bug in the highest scores display (they are now ordered from highest score to lowest, as you would expect them to be, and not randomly ordered like they were in v1.2). Both the free and paid versions received these updates.

Big Fingers Keyboard v2.0 coming soon
Sometimes, you know that you need to update your app but there is something you just can’t figure out how to do… Well, this was the case for Big Fingers Keyboard, my soft keyboard app for Google Android, but I am pleased to say that I have finally found a way to get predictive text to work fast with a big dictionary (I managed to get predictive text to work a couple of months ago but it was too slow for me to release it as an update).

Where is Gingerbread?
So another week has come and gone without Android Gingerbread… The upgrade of the developers console kept us hoping that Gingerbread’s arrival was imminent, and it might still be, but nonetheless, it isn’t here yet.
FroYo launched exactly six months ago today and brought with it a lot of excitement. As a user, I can’t wait for Android tablets to really come in force onto the market and we are now being told that Gingerbread will be Android 2.3 and we’ll have to wait for Honeycomb, aka v 3.0, for full tablets compatibility. I know the pressure is on them to get it right and I’m sure they are delaying the launch to get the best offering they can – I’m just too damn impatient!
New Google Android developers console features at a glance
As previously announced, Google has given a facelift to its console for Android devs. Here’s a snapshot of the new features (I’ve highlighted the new features in red for clarity):

Update to Google Android Market Developer Console coming up?
In an email sent to registered Google Android devs, Google has announced they will perform maintenance on “Android Market Developer Console starting at 10PM on THURSDAY 18 November and ending by 4AM FRIDAY 19 November 2010, Pacific Standard Time.”
This is unusual for Google to send such an email and in fact, this is so unusual that they had to send 2 emails – they had got the times wrong in the first email!
So does it mean they are cooking up an update of the developer console to coincide with the launch of Gingerbread? Does it mean Gingerbread SDK will be launching then?

I have now added the following features to Sudoku Way, which is now at v1.1.

Sudoku Way – a Tetris meets Sudoku game for Android
A few screenshots for my new Google Android game Sudoku Way. This is inspired by Tetris but instead of shapes, it’s numbers falling down the grid on the screen. Your mission is to place them in a sudoku pattern (= 9 unique digits in either a row, or a column, or a 3 cells by 3 cells grid).

Google Android at top spot on PCWorld Best Tech Products 2010 list
As usual, PCWorld releases its list of the best tech products for the year (view the list here) and my fellow Google Android developers will be pleased to know that Google Android 2.2 has beat the iPad to the top spot. I’m not one to care much about such lists but it’s always nice when a mainstream tech/computer company recognises that there is more to gadgets than Apple.
One year of Google Android development
Following on from my Six months of Google Android development post, it is now time for an update as it’s almost one year to the day since I published my first GA app.
