So, 18th September is Software Freedom Day. If you are a Linux user, how can you celebrate this?
I find that the best way to turn people onto Linux is to show it to them. So burn a live CD for your favourite Linux distro (or get a live CD from one of the numerous existing Linux magazines), bring it over to a friend or family member with Windows and run it on their computer.
This way, they can experience a Linux environment without having to commit to it (no hardware install, unless they choose to). Whether they like or dislike their desktop looking different from what they are used to, leave the live CD with them – you never know, they might boot from it again in a few days and slowly the idea of installing a dual boot system on their computer might anchor itself in their subconscious…
So, are you going to celebrate Software Freedom Day, and if yes, how?
