One day ahead of my self-imposed deadline, I have released Big Words Plus, an enhanced version of my English vocabulary training app for Google Android.
The difference between this app and most dictionaries/vocabulary apps out there is that each word comes with a sentence using the word – not only, it helps you understand the meaning of the word correctly but it will also help you remember the actual word.
The enhanced version also comes with phonetics, using the IPA (International Pronunciation Alphabet), with each symbol used in the word explained in the order of appearance. So no searching for your symbol through a list, just click on the “?” button and the list of used symbols for the word will appear, along with how to pronounce (for example, “a in about”).

The app is constructed so you can study 40-50 words each week, or you can study the whole list at once. At the moment, it comes with 4 weeks worth of words and an introductory price of £0.99. Over the next few months, I will be adding more words – in total, there will be 20 weeks’ worth of words. When I add more words, the price of the app will go up to £1.49 but the Google Android market rules means you can upgrade yours for free if you have bought it for £0.99
Next, I will be working on a new version of VocabuLab French, my French building vocabulary training app. It will be pretty much designed in a similar fashion, but with audio for the French example sentences. You might wonder what qualifies me for this? Well, French is my mother tongue (English is now my first language but of course, I can still speak French pretty well
).
